The Lion King

Walt Disney is very clever in the films that he makes, as he often uses them to convey a message or moral tale which is hidden within the movie itself. In The Lion King movie, Disney took his inspiration from two sources; Shakespeare and the Bible, so that he could tell a tale of betrayal, love, hope and honor. It is one of the last traditionally animated films produced as technology advancement has change the way animated films are made. It has become a classic with Disney calling it one of their Disney Renaissance films.

Released in 1994, The Lion King was an instant Box Office hit making over seven hundred and eight three million dollars worldwide and the sound track went on to become number one on the billboards. Two Academy Awards were presented, along with a Golden Globe Award for the film. Special accreditation went to the musical side of the film which was written and composed by the famous Tim Rice and Elton John.
The film is set in an area of Africa called Pride Rock where Mufasa is King and Simba is his new born son and heir to the throne. Everyone is rejoicing in the King and Queen's happy news but one, Scar who is Mufasa's brother who expected to take the crown after the current King. With the birth of Simba he is no longer next in line and this infuriates him tremendously. Scar then goes on a mission to try and kill Simba, firstly by sending him out into the forbidden Outlands and then when he is rescued by his father the plan is stepped up a notch. His second attempt is to kill both father and son, Simba ends up fleeing and Scar becomes King. It is now up to Simba to take back the crown that is rightfully his and the film centers on his journey and progression from childhood to adulthood. All of the trials and tribulations that he has to encounter and the romance he feels between himself and his playmate from his cub days, Nala.

This film captures perfectly the transition from a child to a man or a woman and how what they experience in life has an effect on their future. That change is never too late and that forgiveness is the key to happiness. There are some crazy characters in the film called Timon and Pumbaa who are able to take the edge off the seriousness of the situation and bring pure comedy to the film that will have you in stitches. The musical songs throughout the film are catchy and you will find yourself singing along in no time at all.
